Balancing polarized tendencies towards self-help and self-destruction across my practice, I harness the techniques associated with collage - repetitive cutting, folding and ripping - to aestheticize compulsions typically associated with anxiety. Inverting impulses to self-harm through a mindful creative outlet results in self-enlightenment. This concept of self-enlightenment - to hold perceptions and experiences in a new and tangible light - runs quite literally throughout the work and ultimately frees the ego from its self-obsession. Where Light Or Skin diffuses a pleasing spectrum of light across a shape and mark so well-worn into my own skin. In the case of Cosmos, I image a bouquet of flowers and light - a symbol typical of romance but re-interpreted here as a gesture of self-love. Finally, the Felt pieces translate emotion mind into tactile form.

Color is to light as sensory perception is to consciousness.
